Rockstar SuperSours

Posted in Reviews with tags , , , , , , on 04/24/2013 by Brett

So a while back, I had mentioned on our Facebook page that Rockstar was releasing their SuperSours line-up in two flavors: Green Apple and Bubbleberry. I will start with Green Apple.

The last time I remember any energy drink manufacturer developing an apple flavored drink was when Xenergy had their “Big Apple” flavor, which they discontinued over four years ago. Shame, because it was actually very good. But I have never been let down by any of Rockstar’s flavors. Others I have liked more, but never stopped me from buying those other flavors ever again. Just buy the ones I like the most more so.

The Green Apple flavor definitely tastes just like a Granny Smith apple, which is my favorite kind of apple as well. I was expecting a little bit of tartness from the energy drink, maybe more so than what the actual apple would give. But I didn’t get that. Don’t get me wrong: It was sour. But it wasn’t “Makes my lips pucker up” sour. Still flavorful, but more sweet than it is sour. Definitely enjoyable, but not really what I expected.

Now for the Bubbleberry flavor: This one I didn’t expect any sourness from, though there was a little. But it tasted more like bubble gum than anything, which I did expect. Didn’t really notice any berry flavor to it, but maybe I need to drink more before I jump to such a rash decision. But I also figured they would have picked a fruit that is known for its tartness and not make it taste like bubble gum.

So overall: Green Apple and Bubbleberry tasted good, but they weren’t “super sour.” Definitely a good marketing tool on Rockstar’s part to get people who like sourness to buy this product. But this is not one of Rockstar’s more successful ventures. At least not when it comes to flavor, because their other flavors are awesome!

Rockstar Relax

Now I know this is a blog about energy drinks, but Rockstar also makes a drink that helps you relax. And it is aptly named “Rockstar Relax.” It is a tropical guava flavor (even says so on the can). It does say it is non-carbonated, but I would say it is more so lightly carbonated. Still tastes pretty good though. And obviously, there is no caffeine. But they do pre-warn you that it causes drowsiness and that you should not operate a vehicle or heavy machinery after consumption. Not that I or anyone else with any common sense would do that, but they are right to warn us as well: It knocked me out minutes after I drank it. That’s how relaxed it made me. Not a bad thing, as I needed the sleep that night. Playing with your eight-month-old niece will wear you out, especially after she received a boatload of Christmas presents.

So if you are looking for a drink that will help you relax, but don’t feel like any alcohol: This is the drink for you! Go buy yourself a can or more today!

Rockstar Iced

So here is the final review of the new Rockstar flavors: Rockstar Iced. This one is Rockstar’s iced tea version, but in a flavor I didn’t think anyone would try: Peach flavor. Ordinarily, I am not really into anything that is peach flavored, but I figured I might as well give this one a try. After all, Rockstar has never disappointed me with any of their flavors. And I’ll admit, this was no exception. I like iced tea to begin with, but this iced tea leaves the rest of them in the dust! Rockstar, you’ve done it again! Keep up the good work.

Rockstar Rehab

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to another work week. Sorry to remind you. But today, we do have a new review. This one is about Rockstar Rehab. Just like XDurance, I was absolutely intrigued to try this one. The main reason: Rockstar Rehab contains coconut water, but with 160 mg of caffeine. Basically, this is just another flavor to the Recovery line-up, at least in a way. I didn’t mind the flavor to this one. Coconut is very good for you to begin with, but I know coconut water is not for everyone. And after the week I had (Not that my week was bad, but it was busy), I needed a drink like Rockstar Rehab. I’m not saying I will drink this one religiously when it comes to the Rockstar line-up. But I would certainly buy it again. Wednesday’s review: Rockstar Iced.

Medicinal Ingredients (Per 473 mL): Taurine 2000 mg, Caffeine (Coffea sp bean) 160 mg, panax ginseng (3:1 root extract, QCE 300 mg, 3 to 5% ginsenosides) 100 mg, sodium (sodium citrate) 55 mg, opuntia ficus-indica (prickly pear 4:1 leaf extract, QCE 200 mg) 50 mg, silybum marianum (milk thistle 20:1 seed extract, QCE 800 mg, 80% silymarin) 40 mg, niacinamide 20 mg, pantothenic acid 20 mg, vitamin B6 4 ng, potassium (monopotassium phosphate) 2 mg, vitamin B12 30 mcg.

Non-Medicinal Ingredients (Per 473 mL): Water, sugar, coconut water concentrate, phosphoric acid, pectin, potassium sorbate, calcium lactate pentahydrate, coconut flavor, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, caramel color.

Rockstar XDurance

Just like NOS, Rockstar has released more new flavors into Canada. But Rockstar has released three new flavors: XDurance, Rehab and Iced. My review today will be about Rockstar XDurance. First of all: I was quite intrigued about the name of the drink itself: XDurance. Figured I could use a little extra endurance one day, so I tried this one. And I am quite impressed with how this drink tastes. It combines acai, blueberry and pomegranate flavors into one drink, as well as branched chain amino acids (BCAA), which gives anyone that extra endurance they need for anything any day of the week! And the first time I tried this: I definitely felt it working. Not saying I could bench press a ’57 Chevy after drinking a can, but certainly felt pretty strong after. So give Rockstar XDurance a try today. You won’t be disappointed. Monday’s review: Rockstar Rehab.

Medicinal Ingredients (Per 473 mL): Taurine 2000 mg, Caffeine (Coffea sp bean) 160 mg, Camellia sinensis (green tea leaf extract, QCE 1500 mg, 50% epigallocatechin 3-gallate) 50 mg, Paullinia cupana (guarana seed extract, QCE 12.5 mg, 1.0% caffeine) 50 mg, L-valine 50 mg, L-leucine 50 mg, L-isoleucine 50 mg, pantothenic acid (calcium D-pantothenate) 20 mg, vitamin B3 (niacinamide) 20 mg, monobasic potassium phosphate 16 mg, vitamin E (d-alpha tocopheryl acetate) 6 IU, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride) 4 mg.

Non-Medicinal Ingredients (Per 473 mL): Carbonated water, sugar, blueberry flavor, pomegranate flavor, acai (Euterpe oleracea) fruit flavor, citric acid, DL-malic acid, purple carrot juice, grape juice, calcium lactate pentahydrate, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, red cabbage colour.

Contains (Per 473 mg): Sucralose 64 mg, acesulfame-potassium 72 mg.

Rockstar 2X

Posted in Reviews with tags , , , on 05/23/2011 by Brett

First of all: I would like to wish a happy Victoria Day to all of my Canadian friends! Hope you have had a good long weekend and partied hard.

Today, I am going to enjoy the rest of my long weekend as well and also review Rockstar 2X. What does the 2X stand for? It means twice the caffeine as the original Rockstar. So instead of the usual 120-160 mg of caffeine, this one crams in 250 mg. Needless to say, I was alert for the rest of the day!

This is the other Rockstar flavor that comes in a 12 fl. oz. (355 mL) can. I was expecting this one to taste very similar to the original Rockstar, which would be wild berry, and to start, I was correct. But what I really enjoyed about it is it had a nice citrus finish. Never had an energy drink that has done that before. Not sure if that was Rockstar’s intention. Either way, great job!

So if you want to stay awake during the day and not have to get another caffeine boost around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, give Rockstar 2X a try. It’s high in caffeine, but low in calories.

Don’t forget to check out the Rockstar website!

Rockstar Pink

Posted in Reviews with tags , , , on 05/20/2011 by Brett

So a while back, Rockstar released two new energy drinks in a 12 fl. oz (355 mL) can: Pink and 2X. Rockstar Pink is obviously marketed towards women. Besides the color of the can and beverage itself, it also comes with a straw, as many women like having a straw and I don’t of many, if any, men who use straws anymore. No offense, but I have noticed that as of late. But anyway, back to the drink itself.

So I decided to give it a whirl (sans straw) and I was rather impressed. Now, obviously, Rockstar Pink is not something I would drink every day, but I will admit it was rather tasty. It had a strawberry or pink grapefruit flavor to it, which was quite pleasing. Couldn’t really put my finger on the exact flavor, but it was good nonetheless.

So for any of you ladies who want to try something different or any guys who are willing to shed their machoness for a minute, give Rockstar Pink a shot. Monday: My review for Rockstar 2X!
