B Vitamins

For those of you who pick up energy drinks constantly, you may have noticed another ingredient: B Vitamins. Like myself, you have probably wondered why B Vitamins are in energy drinks. Well, for one thing, according to Wikipedia, all B Vitamins are water soluble. And nowadays, consuming vitamins in liquid form is better than in pill form, as the entire body absorbs the vitamins quicker.

There are eight common types of B Vitamins: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12. Common B Vitamins you may find in energy are Vitamins B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride) and B12 (cyanocobalamin).

B Vitamins are critical in our daily intake, just like Vitamins C and D. B Vitamins are necessary in order to

  • Support and increase the rate of metabolism
  • Maintain healthy skin and muscle tone
  • Enhance immune and nervous system function
  • Promote cell growth and division—including that of the red blood cells that help prevent anemia.
  • Reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer, one of the most lethal forms of cancer

So maybe energy drinks are not as bad for us as we thought…as long as you don’t drink too many in a day.
